Small Valley Vineyard is a part of the Gumeracha township in the heart of the Adelaide Hills, tucked away in the Torrens Valley 36km northeast of Adelaide. Its ancient, mineral rich soils and wrinkled topography where the reason for its settlement and the continuation of this long agricultural history through viticulture. Gumeracha has warm days and cold nights. This coupled with diverse variation in subtle light avail it to many different varieties and wine styles.
The sheltered vines trail into an intimate valley where a central teardrop pond takes the sky. The valley feels sacred and alive with greens and golds, a perfect place to create something beautiful.
SMALL VALLEY VINEYARD
Gumeracha was known by the Peramangk people as “umeracha” meaning watering place. Our vineyards sit in the beautiful Torrens valley 36km northeast of Adelaide. The sheltered vines trail into an intimate valley where a central teardrop pond takes the sky. The valley feels sacred and alive with greens and golds, a perfect place to create something beautiful. This along with and being 360m above sea leave and an average rain fall of 756mm lends its self to the cooler wine varieties and wine styles. Sandy loam over shale with overlaying clay and sandstone. Help make up such a diverse site.
2016 SAUVIGNON BLANC
The 2016 Sauvignon Blanc was harvested on the 21st February 2016. Its clean lines of zesty green apple and passion fruit, is what make this wine a treat for the warmer months.
Guava and citrus notes give this Sauvignon Blanc a tropical and zesty aroma
Crisp and refreshing with clean mouth-watering finish
Hits the spot as an aperitif or with delicate fish and a summer salad with a mildly tangy vinaigrette
2016 PINOT GRIS
The 2016 Pinot Gris was harvested in the dead of night on the 22nd February 2016. Known for its grey – blue to copper pink berries white wine is produced. With careful winemaking it shows white nectarine, pear with a hint of lime and honeysuckle on the back pallet.
Pear and white apple, with subtle floral accents of blossom.
Light and elegant with a delicately spicy finish.
Raw fish or shellfish, or mild cheeses (try it with tostadas with fresh mozzarella and basil).
The 2016 Chardonnay was harvested early morning on the 21st February 2016. The process of mostly tank fermented juice was used in order to maintain the beautiful tropical fruits of Chardonnay. There is a hint of background noise coming from French oak (17% new) to add texture.
A backdrop of citrus and fresh peach are overlaid with gentle notes of toasted hazelnut.
Great acidity and a subtle mineral tinge provide a satisfying finish.
Crab cakes, or a creamy risotto with spring vegetables.
2016 PINOT NOIR
The 2016 Pinot Noir was harvest on the 4th March 2016. Fermented in open fermenters. The 100% whole bunch, wild yeast sets the tone whilst the 25% new French oak adds length and complexity. Black cherry, currant and a hint of spice from stalks, come’s a wine with a little hint of mocha.
An inviting and perfumed Pinot, with cranberries and sweet kirsch notes.
Medium-bodied and silky, with supple red fruits and a pleasingly refreshing acidity.
Pairs perfectly with charcuterie, cold cuts, pâté; or be adventurous and serve with seared salmon steaks.
